After spending way too much money trying to find something that would actually keep our baby happy when we needed to set her down, I finally hit a home run when I found this. It's the one piece of baby equipment that actually calms her and that she likes being in without fussing.
Some of the other reviewers said that this doesn't bounce enough, but I think it's just perfect. It's a nice, gentle, rhythmic, up-and-down bounce. (Note that if you saw this on display in a store and turned it on it wouldn't really bounce; it needs the weight of the baby in it to work.) Every baby is different, and maybe when our baby is older and heavier it won't be as effective, but so far for us this is just right. I will say though, as others have mentioned, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the "gentle" and "normal" bounce settings.
One design feature I like about this bouncer is that the frame wires go around the top, so that when she's bouncing her feet are moving more than her head. The other bouncer we tried had the frame wires at the bottom so that when we manually bounced the baby (with our feet or hands) her head would be bouncing up and down more than her feet. I think this way is better.
Other design features I like: The music is very nice, it's calming and has good sound quality. The other bouncer we tried had a plastic toy bar that you had to remove every time you put the baby in and out; this has a hinged toy bar which you simply move back when lifting the baby in and out (and being hinged means we can move the toys into the line of sight of the baby). This bouncer also includes extra padding which is super soft and cushions the baby really well (and can be removed if it makes your baby too warm or she just doesn't like it).
If you have a newborn I would highly recommend trying this Bright Starts Automatic Bouncer. It's reasonably priced and has been a wonderful thing for our baby--and her parents!
